Tracking waste in real time helps your leaders see exactly what is being lost, when, and why, giving them the data they need to reduce costs and improve operations.
You must have the appropriate role or the View Waste on Mobile permission to log waste entries. If you do not see the Waste option or cannot log waste, talk to your manager about your permissions.
Where to Track
Waste can be logged on your mobile device or on a shared KitchenIQ tablet. For high-volume waste areas, a centrally located tablet provides a convenient way for multiple team members to enter waste throughout the day. The mobile app offers flexibility for employees who are moving between stations or working in areas without easy access to a tablet. Log each item as it is wasted, at the source, for the most accurate results.
See Waste Equipment and Best Practices to learn how to set up tablets in your store.

Tips for Accurate Tracking
- Log waste as it happens. End of day catch-up entries are less accurate and harder to attribute to a specific cause.
- Select the correct area before logging. Each area has its own product list, so choosing the right one keeps your data organized.
- Use the reason field every time, even if "No Reason" is the closest match. Reason data helps leaders identify patterns over time.
- If you cannot find a product in the list, it may need to be added by a manager in Waste Settings.
